An Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a quick, painless, and highly effective diagnostic test used to evaluate the electrical activity of your heart. What is an ECG?

An ECG records the electrical signals that trigger your heartbeat. Small sensors (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms, and legs to capture these signals and display them as waves on a monitor or printout.

The results help our clinicians detect a wide range of heart conditions – from mild rhythm irregularities to more serious cardiac issues that require urgent attention.

Your GP or specialist may recommend an ECG if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart palpitations or fluttering sensations
  • Dizziness or fainting episodes
  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Irregular or rapid heartbeat

An ECG may also be used as a routine part of pre-surgical assessments or to monitor existing heart conditions or the effects of certain medications.
