He was selected for the PhD program at UCL London, becoming a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Medicine. At the same time, graduating from the University of London as a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Distinction.
Being qualified as a medical doctor, dentist and surgeon are the unusual needs for a maxillofacial surgeon. Professor Shakib is on the specialist register with the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC).
He has however built on those requirements, through a Specialist Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a residency program in the US and wide experience. Becoming recognised as one of the leading oral & maxillofacial surgeons in the UK and beyond.
The skills and knowledge he offers patients are wide ranging, from salivary gland surgery, to treating facial, or jaw trauma, or deformity. He carries out micro-vascular surgery, bone augmentation and other advanced techniques.
His ability to take OPG x-rays and CT scans can be time saving for patients, as is the understanding Professor Shakib has of diagnostic information and the needs of those he treats.
Maxillofacial care is a quite personal field of medicine, bringing together key functions and the way we look. Professor Shakib appreciates this and seeks to build sound relationships with his patients, to move forward together.
