Mr Stellakis studied medicine at the University of Bristol, graduating in 1991. Specialist training included time in London, Strasbourg and Paris, along with a Fellowship in laparoscopic bowel surgery in Surrey.
In 2004, Mr Stellakis was admitted to the GMC’s specialist register, with consultant posts following and a growing reputation for exceptional patient care.
He specialises in diseases of the bowel, or abdominal wall. Along with a focus on diagnostic, or therapeutic colonoscopist, Mr Stellakis has well developed skills in laparoscopic (keyhole) and endoscopic surgery.
He is one of the few UK surgeons to have performed over 1500 TEP laparoscopic hernia repairs. A technique which is more complex to perform than other keyhole approaches, yet affords the patient less pain, or scarring and quicker recovery.
An ability to adopt the best techniques can matter on delicate areas, part of the reason Mr Stellakis’s comfort and patient satisfaction scores are so high.
Research & Teaching
Mr Stellakis’s research interests include irritable bowel syndrome, coloproctology, colorectal cancer, hernias and advancing laparoscopic surgery.
He served on a national training programme for consultants, in advanced keyhole techniques for removing bowel cancers. Along with training numerous fellows, junior surgeons and consultants, in laparoscopic colorectal cancer and hernia surgery.
