Professor Riaz graduated from Imperial College London in chemical pathology, in 1991. Further studies at the University of London saw him receive his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1994.
An invaluable combination for a medical career, followed by surgical training and FRCS examinations in London, along with 15 months in Melbourne, Australia.
A research based PhD at the University of Lund in Sweden created further opportunity for Professor Riaz to add to his knowledge. For this and other work, he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Appointment to the GMC’s Specialist Register in General surgery came in 2008. Ensuing consultancy posts saw Professor Riaz establish a reputation for high standards of surgical work and a focus on individual patient care.
His special interests include upper GI surgery, GORD, achalasia, gallbladder disease and hernia surgery. Well developed abilities in laparoscopic and keyhole surgery ensure that Professor Riaz’s patients can benefit from a minimalist approach.
They also benefit from Professor Riaz’s natural interest in his patients and his innate wish to see them return to a healthy life.
