Mr Gietzmann trained at the University of Cambridge and Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, graduating in medicine from Kings College London in 2010.
Higher surgical training followed, at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and in Edinburgh. Following admission to the GMC’s specialist register in 2019, he continued to work in Aberdeen, before being appointed as a consultant in Oxford.
Mr Gietzmann has a special interest in diagnosing and treating kidney cancer, using the latest techniques, such as robotic and laparoscopic surgery. The same ethos applies to a range of conditions he provides support for.
They include prostate, bladder, and testicular cancer, scrotal swellings, kidney stones, urinary tract infection, prostatitis, chronic pain and incontinence.
As a urologist, Mr Gietzmann deals with areas of medicine which are vital to a functional life and to overall wellbeing. He is always aware of the impact they can have on patients and the importance of finding individual solutions.
Research & Teaching
Mr Gietzmann was appointed an Honorary Clinical Lecturer by the University of Aberdeen, where he collaborated with the European Association of Urologists to publish a systematic review of treatment for prostate cancer.
He worked closely with the Cochrane Collaboration, on a review of treatments for incontinence. He has published work on kidney cancer and kidney stones, along with helping to build the future, by teaching and mentoring trainee surgeons based in Oxford.
