Mr Shearman qualified in medicine in 2008, at Imperial College School of Medicine in London. A decision to focus on orthopaedics came early in his career, which has been dedicated to that field and to knee surgery in particular.
His initial specialist training took place in London, before completing subspecialist knee fellowships at Imperial College Oxford and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.
Mr Shearman entered the GMC’s specialist register for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2018. Soon after this, he was awarded the ESSKA knee arthroscopy travelling fellowship, to enhance his skills in Brandenburg, Germany.
His consultancy posts in the UK include time at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. Leading institutions where his skills have brought benefit to patients lives.
This includes joint preservation operations around the knee, such as osteotomy, or cartilage surgery. A sound knowledge of sports injuries, carrying out meniscal repair, ligament reconstruction and kneecap stabilisation.
Helping to manage osteoarthritis is a key part of Mr Shearman’s work, including roboticly assisted, partial knee replacement surgery.
As one of the UK’s leading knee surgeons, we are pleased to see Mr Shearman based at our hospital. Our patients more so, for the knowledge he brings and his wish to treat patients as the unique individuals they are.
