Dr Moghal qualified in medicine from the University of Sheffield, in 2002. Further medical training followed, including qualifying to practice as a GP, before specialist training in a field he felt was so important to health and wellbeing.
A Diploma in Sport & Exercise Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons came through studies at the Oxford Deanery. A Master’s Degree in Sport, Exercise & Health followed, from University College London.
Dr Moghal entered the GMC’s specialist list for sport and exercise medicine in 2015. Since that time, he has worked with individual patients and prominent sports bodies.
He is lead physician for the England men’s cricket team, touring with them at home and abroad. A period as sports physician with the English Institute saw Dr Moghal work with athletes from a broad range of Olympic & Paralympic Sports.
As part of the medical support team, he travelled to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Also to European Championships, World Cups, the Commonwealth Games and two Paralympic Games.
Dr Moghal’s ability to assess and manage acute, or chronic sports injuries, or other musculoskeletal conditions is valuable to his patients. As is his ability to create effective treatment plans, to relieve pain and restore function.
He believes that amateur as well as elite athletes, or those who just enjoy physical activity deserve equal care. A belief he puts into practice by offering fine medical support, tailored to the needs of each patient he treats.
Research & Teaching
Dr Moghal enjoys teaching medical colleagues and served as clinical examiner on a Master’s Degree in Sport & Exercise Medicine. Also as an educational supervisor on the higher specialist training scheme in sport & exercise medicine in the Oxford Deanery.
His recent research has focused on the implications of Covid-19 for elite sports and the recovery time, or prolonged impact for international athletes. Past studies have covered a range of sports medicine topics, with an emphasis on improving diagnosis and treatment.
