Dr Mitchener qualified in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, University of London in 1997. Following further training and experience in London, he gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of General Practitioners.
Alongside general practice skills, Dr Mitchener is an experienced interface physician, helping to improve cohesion between hospital and primary care.
He has worked across a range of facilities for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Leading the development of ambulatory care provision in Oxfordshire, from infancy, to a fully supportive service.
Dr Mitchener’s ability to take an overview of multiple conditions has been valuable in developing this service. All the more so for our patients, who can see a GP able to take an informed, yet pragmatic view on how they can help.
From diagnosis, to treatment, or referral to specialist care, Dr Mitchener follows an individual approach to better health. Getting to know his patients and recommending solutions aimed at the future.
Research & Teaching
Within his support for ambulatory care, Dr Mitchener helped to train the Hospital at Home and Urgent Community Response teams. Ensuring that patients can receive treatment, therapy and logistical support in their home.
He continues to help grow the national award winning SCAN pathway, designed to pick up early cancers where there are few evident symptoms. The early intervention this can bring is critical for successful treatment.
